What is the Total Flow Generator?

It is a power-generating system that processes renewable and waste pressure into fuel-free, emission free power. It is capable of directly utilizing and exploiting the energy in renewable and waste pressure from virtually any source without the expensive, efficiency-reducing requirements of heat exchangers or organic mediums to transfer energy.

Power production efficiencies approximate those produced by steam turbines without the strict requirements of dry steam required by those devices. Capable of direct utilization of wet steam, dry steam, geothermal fluids, natural gas, water and many other waste streams, gives the Total Flow Generator significant economic and performance advantages over traditional and non-traditional waste energy capture devices.

What the Total Flow Gas Letdown Generator is not:
The Total Flow Generator is not based on an Organic Rankine Cycle. There is no organic medium through which energy is transferred via heat exchangers or other methods thus vastly improving the efficiency at which electricity is generated.

What is the cost of making power with the Total Flow Gas Letdown Generator?

Total Flow Generators produce electricity at the lowest price known in the business of power generation. They can produce 1MW to 25MW of “green energy” for subsidy-free CapEx payback of 1 to 3 years in most cases — and even less with subsidies. Following payback, electricity is generated at a fraction of a cent per kW (around .005¢/kW) — even cheaper than dirty fuels like coal or risky fuels like nuclear, let alone wind or solar.

For certain applications, the Total Flow Gas Letdown Generators reduce the cost to half the cost of generating power from the same source using either turbines or binary ORC systems.

How does the Total Flow Generator Compare with Turbine Generators and Organic Rankine Cycle Generators (ORC)?


  • Cost 50% less than turbines & binary ORC plants (less than $2,000 per kW)
  • Have significantly lower operating costs (about ½¢ per kW)
  • Run at 1/5th the speed of turbines
  • Are efficient, simple, flexible & easy to install
  • Are more robust (will run impurities and contaminates)
  • Allow gases, dry or wet steam, hot water, impurities & contaminates directly into the machine

What is needed to make power?

We have been able to make net power from as little as 15 psi compressed air flowing at less than 2,000 CFM. Economical power production can be accomplished with as little as 80 psi and similar flow rates (routinely generating more than 60 kWh).

What can be used to make power?

The Total Flow Generator is unique in that it will directly accept many renewable or waste streams, or “fuel” sources that must be “pre-processed” by all other power generation equipment. For example, steam turbines require 100% dry steam and most ORC systems require the use of heat exchangers and organic working fluids to generate power. The Total Flow Gas Letdown Generator has patented internal coatings to allow it to accept directly dry steam, wet steam, waste water, geothermal fluids, natural gas and many other sources of pressure to make power. Some examples of renewable or wasted energy sources include:
  • Natural gas pressure reduction stations
  • Oil & gas geo-pressure
  • Water
  • Petrochemical and industrial waste pressure

How is Cooling a benefit?

The Total Flow Generator will naturally cool any waste stream used as a fuel source through the natural processes inherit in expansion. Significant reductions in temperature of the waste stream have been documented in our research and development center, many in excess of 85%. Every situation and implementation will have their own specific characteristics, but the improved efficiencies and reduced cooling costs will benefit many industrial and power generation processes.

Pressure Reduction:

The Total Flow Generator’s ability to convert pressure into power provides for significant pressure reduction capabilities during the process. Pressure reductions during testing have resulted in reductions of over 90% in our research and development center.

Operator requirements:

The Total Flow Generator is designed around proven, reliable components with millions of hours of trouble-free operation. Normal operations can be remotely monitored and controlled so there is no need for an on-site operator.

What Maintenance is required?

Normal routine maintenance is typically a bearing inspection and lubrication inspection every 50,000 hours of operation (every five years or so).

Currently the 1MW machines can be shipped in 9 months while the 5MW machines have a 12-month lead time.
